Summer is Coming and That Means It’s Barbeque Time

Published by Melissa at 12:33 pm under Lynx Grills

With spring finally here and summer just around the corner, the time for backyard barbeques has finally arrived (well, almost anyway if you live in a colder climate).

Backyard barbeques bring back interesting memories.  Each time I smell charcoal burning, not only do I think of the burgers, hot dogs, and s’mores, but I can picture my mother standing over the grill fanning the coals.

I see my mother getting frustrated, adding lighter fluid to the charcoal and lighting match after match, trying to get the grill started.  Not many kids know what a charcoal grill is anymore with the advent of gas grills and electric starters.  I loved how the food tasted, even though it always contained a hint of leftover lighter fluid.

Although, now that I think of it, even today my mother has trouble with her , pushing that start button over and over and the refusing to light.

Now that I am an adult, I tried once to have a barbeque for some friends.  This was a single, one time event that I tried to barbeque for instead of my spouse.  I learned that food cooks quite fast on a grill and that cheese is flammable.  We had to order takeout that night and I am forever banned from the grill, gas or any other kind.

I can’t wait for a real hot summer night when you hear the kids playing and smell the grills in the neighborhood going on for another supper of barbeque chicken, steak, or maybe even some grilled vegetables.  I am allowed to prepare the food to put on the grill and to make sure we have enough gas in the tank.

Right now, watching the snow melt off the deck, I dream of lazy summer nights and even of swatting a few mosquitoes.

I am getting ready to set up our outdoor space.  The furniture is cleaned off but still in storage and the grill has been used once so far.  As soon as the crocus are up and the trees start budding, I’ll be on my back deck, waiting for the first barbeque.

    Great post Melissa.

I am really looking forward to my summer barbecues with the family too. It beats standing in the snow warming my hands over the grill and stomping my feet to stay warm.
